What did you find the most interesting when comparing the festival research materials?
I liked reading about the festivals like IndieGrits that have a bunch of stuff besides just film. I know IndieGrits does all kinds of media and such, even food, and many of the festivals have art instillations or silent films that are accompanied by live music, voices, or acting. I forget which festival it was, but I really liked the idea of the "Secret Film", where you pay to a film but you have no clue what is it, and you aren't allowed to talk about it afterwards. I want to do fun, quirky stuff like this!
Also, I liked how the experimental film festival Matt researched had a submission cost that was only $1 per minute of film.
What sponsor ideas were sparked from the posts so far? Which festival/conference inspired this and why?
It seemed like a lot of festivals, especially the student run ones (Humboldt and the conference at Notre Dame this year) had mainly local sponsors. I think this makes sense because, especially for the smaller festivals that are more like us, your impact is really only seen in that small part of the community. There are also a lot that have food (or alcohol) sponsors...I think Christian mentioned in his blog about maybe getting businesses like Fuzzy Peach and such to donate. (Which is good because donations are not subject to the same constraints that actual monetary donations are for our on-campus event.)
