Small Projects Questions
Thank You Cards & DVDs
What is the project supposed to achieve?
Show appreciation for our director interviewees and select other faculty.
Are the results straight-forward?
Yes - they either get the thank you's/packages or they don't.
Are deliverables easily measured?
Not really...This is more of an intangible, goodwill type benefit. But it may show up as concrete benefits later if some of these connections prove useful. We have already benefitted from the knowledge we gained when interviewing our directors!
How much effort is required?
Comparatively minimal effort compared to some of our other projects. About 20-30 minutes for each staff member to write a note and find the appropriate address, plus an additional 5 minutes per package for us Hospitality people to assemble it and ship it off.
How many people or skills are needed?
Everyone participates because they each write their own note. The organization of actually mailing them off can easily be done by just me, and maybe Ally if I need help.
How complex is the project?
This is pretty straightforward, and assuming that everyone turns in their notes this week it should be quick to wrap up.
College Tours
What is the project supposed to achieve?
Provide additional publicity for Visions, spread our name to other film schools, encourage submissions from these schools, and to network. (And to have fun!)
Are the results straight-forward?
In some ways, yes. Either we have tours or we don't. But the quality of those tours depends on how much money we raise, how well we prepare, and how committed people are to actually going.
Are deliverables easily measured?
Again, this is more of an intangible "networking" kind of benefit. But we could take note of how many submissions we receive from the schools we visit to determine if we did a good job of creating interest.
How much effort is required?
A good bit. We have to budget, create an itinerary for the trip, plan our presentation/outreach, and find connections at our target schools.
How many people or skills are needed?
I'd say about 2 to 4 people are needed for each trip. These tours don't require any special skills - in fact, I would say the whole class should be comfortable and capable of doing whatever duties are required to plan and go on a tour. The biggest "skill" we need is commitment, since staff would have to give up a whole weekend to go travel. We also need people willing to drive!
How complex is the project?
A little complex but not overly daunting. We need to brainstorm what schools we want to go to, contact them, plan dates and budgets, get people committed and put a presentation/showing/PR event together. And then actually make the trip. Timing and organization are key on this because we should have our PR campaign in full swing before we go, but we want to go early enough that there is still some time before call for entries opens.
