So I think that it is important to note that this week we kind of had a shift in the way we are marketing ourselves. Before this past week, we had kind of been planning to focus our outreach towards other regional universities, trying to broaden our reach to other film schools that may not have this same opportunity for a festival and conference as we do. But when we stopped to think about it, we could probably benefit more and get a higher return on our time and effort if we put that outreach towards our own film department. I love Film Studies, and I love being a part of Visions, but I agree that are department can be super fragmented and clique-y at times. Visions' goal should be to break down those barriers and put on an event where we can all come together and enjoy film. Every FST student should feel like this event is for them, because in a way, it is - we are super lucky to have a school and faculty that supports this. I think giving Eliza this new angle to work with with definitely put us in a new, more beneficial direction. Once we have the support and involvement from our own department back, we can work on branching out into schools and other communities that aren't as directly involved.
Great post Zoe. I couldn't agree more.
